Responsible Farming
At Green City Farm, we’re committed to improving the sustainability of the global food system—from field to fork. Our goal is to protect biodiversity, preserve vital ecosystem services, and conserve natural resources for future generations.
Responsible Farming Practices
We practice responsible agriculture by avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers. Instead, we rely on natural methods to maintain healthy soil structure and nutrient levels.
A key technique is crop rotation—changing the location of plant species each year. This method helps balance nutrients in the soil and supports long-term fertility.
Maintaining Soil Health
To ensure that the soil at Green City Farm stays rich in nutrients, we use compost, organic fertilizers and green manure (cover crops). Each year, part of the field is planted with fallow crops to naturally restore soil structure and nutrient content.
Soil-Enriching Plants
Our fields are home to a variety of soil-improving plants, including; vetch, buckwheat and clover for example. These plants enrich the soil, support biodiversity, and contribute to a healthy ecosystem.
In 2025, we enter our ninth growing season. On just one hectare of land, over 60 different plant species are cultivated—demonstrating how biodiversity and responsible farming go hand in hand.
