Food For People and Planet

Food for People and Planet invites other colleges and training centers to adapt
and build on this model.

Project details

The Food for People and Planet project, funded by Erasmus+ (KA220-VET), unites three European vocational colleges—Zealand Business College (Denmark), Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College (Finland), and INS Escola d’Hoteleria i Turisme de Barcelona (Spain)—in a shared mission: to promote the planetary health diet as both a culinary and environmental education framework.

Running from October 2024 to December 2025, the project empowers students, educators, and industry stakeholders to create a food culture that supports both human health and the planet’s well-being.

Sustainable food system

The project addresses the urgent need for sustainable food systems that respect the Earth’s limits while improving human nutrition. It contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly:

SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, and
SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.

By embedding sustainability into culinary and vocational education, Food for People and Planet ensures that future professionals in food, hospitality, and agriculture are equipped to make choices that are good for both people and the planet.

Project goals

Develop an innovative training unit and digital materials on the planetary health diet.

Educate students, teachers, and stakeholders on sustainable food practices.
Create a digital knowledge hub featuring webinars, recipes, training resources, and videos.
Inspire others through hands-on pop-up events showcasing sustainable, healthy menus.

Build lasting international collaboration between education and industry to strengthen green skills and innovation in VET.

Key activities

The project brings learning to life through:

A pilot training course at each partner college combining local and online learning.
Collaborative webinars and workshops to exchange best practices.
A Planetary Health Diet Pop-Up Event in each country—a creative, student-led farm dinner that demonstrates sustainability in action.
A final online dissemination event to share results and inspire replication.

Project results

A comprehensive digital platform with open-access educational materials.
A manual for organizing planetary diet pop-up events adaptable by any college.
A network of educators and professionals championing sustainable gastronomy.
Students trained as ambassadors for a sustainable future, equipped with practical green and health-promoting skills.

Pop-up restaurant event at Green City Farm

“This year’s afternoon dinner at Green City Farm was brought to life by students from the Erasmus+ project Food for People and Planet in collaboration with Restaurant Perho. The menu featured seasonal, ecological vegetables and herbs grown at the farm. Earlier in the summer, students foraged wild herbs and even brewed a special dandelion beer. Through this Erasmus+ project, participating institutions co-developed best practices for implementing the Planetary Health Diet—laying the groundwork for educational materials, pop-up awareness events, and online workshops.”

Organize your own planetary health pop-up, integrate sustainability into your curriculum, and join a growing European movement shaping a greener,
healthier food future!
