Largest Natural Farming School in Northern Norway
Study location Marka is the largest “green” natural farming school in Northern Norway, offering a wide range of regional courses in horses, forestry, and study-preparatory natural farming.
In December 2022, it was decided by the County Council that Restaurant and Food Science (RM) at Mosjøen Upper Secondary School will be moved to a different location.
After several years of planning, in the autumn 2024 it was ready for students and teachers to use the kitchen, which is also equipped with a bakery and an à la carte- kitchen as well as a brand-new restaurant. The building was previously a workshop building, but after a significant renovation it is now being given new life.
The Agriculinary way
Veronica Jakobsen, subject teacher at RM, clearly sees great advantages with the new location.
- We are proud of our school being one of the first in the country, combining nature farming with restaurant and food studies, says Veronica.
In the greenhouses the students can sow and follow the development of several of the raw materials that they need during their time at school. The pupils have at the school a unique opportunity to take part in the entire value chain “from soil, fjord and stall to table”.
- We have a modern school facility for milk production, horses and forestry – with a strong focus on further processing and entrepreneurship.
Extended use
- On a daily basis, it will be a school kitchen, but it will be an extended use and can be used by more people, says Jakobsen.
The Competence Centre Food will run courses and other food-related activities in the afternoon and on weekends that the students can also participate in. In addition, we are also a place of study for the vocational school education “sustainable food experiences”.
